Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet (measures 27" x 41") (Learn More) Mr. Deeds Goes to Town, the classic 1936 Frank Capra (winner of the Best Director Academy Award for this film) romantic inheritance comedy ("A new laugh-and-love team takes America by storm!"; "Rocking America with laughter!"; "Story by Clarence Budington Kelland"; "Screen play by Robert Riskin"; "Another great Frank Capra Production"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award; about a small town "rube" from Mandrake Falls, Vermont, who inherits millions of dollars, and he goes to New York City to claim it, and everyone tries to swindle him out of the money, and a female reporter poses as his girlfriend to write stories about him, and he tries to give all the money away in loans to poor farmers who were hurt by the Great Depression, and he is given a sanity hearing, and he refuses to speak because of his girlfriend's deception, but it all works out quite nicely in the end!) starring Gary Cooper (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film; in the title role as Longfellow Deeds), Jean Arthur (as Babe Bennett), George Bancroft, Lionel Stander, Douglass Dumbrille, H.B. Warner, Margaret McWade, Margaret Seddon, Emma Dunn, Walter Catlett, and Margarete Matzenauer. This movie was re-made in 2002 (as "Mr. Deeds") by Adam Sandler, with himself in the starring role. Also note that the plot of this movie is very similar to Times Square Lady, which came out the previous year, but with the sex of the heroes reversed (and the source stories for the two were written by different people). Interestingly, this movie was originally titled "Opera Hat", and it seems that it centered on the part of the story where Cooper becomes the head of the New York Opera House, and while that subplot was retained, the plot was greatly expanded! Important Added Info: Most of the linenbacked posters we sell were restored by the finest professionals. An expertly linenbacked poster will often appear "mint", as its defects have been made to "vanish". We are the only seller we are aware of who always tries to describe the condition of the poster prior to being linenbacked, so you are fully aware of what restoration was performed. If you are not knowledgeable about restoration, Click HERE to learn about linenbacking. Condition: fine. This poster was recently discovered in an attic. The previous owner had trimmed the poster on all sides in order to fit it into an existing frame. Unfortunately, this required trimming not only all the blank borders but into the edge of the image (on all four sides). There was 1/2" of the top of the image missing (just above the words "ANOTHER GREAT"), 1/4" of the right of the image (just cutting into the end of the "R" of "COOPER"), 1/4" of the bottom of the poster (solely blank area, not even affecting the small writing at the bottom), and 1/2" of the left of the image (just to the left of the "F" of "FRANK"). The only parts of the poster where this had much of an effect was the very top of Cooper's head and the image of the doorman in the lower left. The rest of the poster was in fine condition! I gave the trimmed poster to Studio C, along with a high quality blow-up of the full image (from when I owned the poster previously). With extreme care, they recreated the three missing artwork areas (actually mostly two, because so little of the right side was missing, and nothing was missing from the bottom) in such a way that it now appears exactly perfect. I would think a high percentage of collectors would not even see the restoration if I showed them the poster without telling them what had been done! Of course, I always fully disclose what restoration has been performed, but unless you can find a better condition copy of this ultra-rare (and ultra-expensive) poster, this copy with restoration on the edges is the next best thing!
