Presented by the French People to America. As it will appear on its pedestal on Bedloes Island in New York Harbor."; "Height of Pedestal Above High Water 177 ft. 9 in. Height of Statue 151 ft. 2 in. Total Height From Water 328 ft. 11 in.") which was published by Root & Tinker three years before the statue was dedicated, and features artwork of the Statue of Liberty with New York City in the background. Note that the statue was proposed by Edouard de Laboulaye and designed by French sculptor Frederic Auguste Bartholdi (and its metal framework was built by Gustave Eiffel). When Laboulaye announced the project, the statue was given the name Liberty Enlightening the World, which is why the full official name of the monument is The Statue of Liberty Enlightening the World. Note that this poster was printed and distributed BEFORE the Statue of Liberty was erected in New York City! If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this poster! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster had several long tears in the top left and top right that extended into the background, but not into the statue's image. There was a 7" tear in the left of the bottom border extending into the bottom of the image. There were some tears and paper loss around the edges and some light stains scattered in the background areas. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can clearly see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects. Learn More about condition grades
