An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked German Movie Poster (measures 37 3/4" x 56" [96 x 142 cm]) (Learn More) Der Fall Brenken (literally translates to "The Brenken Case"), the 1934 Carl Lamac German big business romantic melodrama (about the owner of a major German company who is attacked at a hotel, and a large reward is offered to find out who did it, and ultimately, it turns out that the owner staged the attack because Americans were buying up stock in his company to do a hostile takeover, but they found secret documents about the company, and they stopped their takeover!; if someone has a more complete summary, please e-mail us) starring Jessie Virogh, Genia Nikolajewa, Hans Brausewetter, Veit Harlan, Rudolf Klein-Rogge, Franz Weber, Walter Steinbeck, Trude Hesterberg, Adele Sandrock, and Genia Nikolaieva. Note that this movie was on the "forbidden list" of movies created right after World War II, and that this might have been because of anti-American sentiment, or it might have been because after Veit Harlan was in the movie, and most of his movies were banned, because he went on to direct such movies as "Jud Suss". Note that actor Veit Harlan was one of the most infamous of the Nazi film directors, directing Jud Suss and many other virulent anti-Jewish Nazi movies during World War II. After the war, almost ALL of his movies were banned, not just the anti-Jewish ones, and he was put on trial for war crimes. But in 1950, after several trials, he was set free, and in 1951, he resumed making movies, making a dozen of them until his passing in 1964. It appears this movie was never released in the U.S. If anyone knows more about this movie, please e-mail us and we will post it here. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Meerwald Important Added Info: Note that "pre-War" movie posters from Germany are virtually nonexistent (it seems likely that most were destroyed during the huge paper shortages that occurred during World War II). As is typical of pre-World War II German posters, the poster has a seal in the printing in the lower right, which gives the date of "17 AUG 1934". We have never seen or heard of another example of this poster (not at all surprising, because there are very few German movie posters from before World War II in existence, and most of those few are in museums). What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had small paper loss at some crossfolds and some creases, tears, and tiny paper loss on parts of some foldlines. It had some diagonal creases or tears to the left of the top and bottom of the vertical foldline. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well! Learn More about condition grades
