Smith and Albro F. Downe art of three B-17 bombers flying in formation with the U.S. flag in the background. The Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress is a four-engined heavy bomber developed in the 1930s for the United States Army Air Corps. From its introduction in 1938, the B-17 Flying Fortress evolved through numerous design advances, becoming the third-most produced bomber of all time. The B-17 was primarily employed by the USAAF in the daylight strategic bombing campaign of World War II against German industrial and military targets. It developed a reputation for toughness based upon stories and photos of badly damaged B-17s safely returning to base. Today, 9 aircraft remain airworthy, and dozens more are in storage or on static display. Artist: Dan V. Smith and Albro F. Downe Condition: fair. The poster is torn nearly in half at right and that tear is repaired with tape from the back. Certainly the poster could be restored and linenbacked and it would look great, but please bear in mind its defects and cost of restoration before placing a bid. Learn More about condition grades
