An Original Vintage Animation Cel (measures 13 1/4" x 19 3/4" [34 x 50 cm]) (Learn More)

Betty Boop and Koko at Max's Cafe, the 1989 limited edition animation cel (limited to 125 animation cels and 7 artist proofs) created by Animation Plus Gallery, and featuring art of Betty Boop and Koko the clown. All of these limited editions were personally signed by Richard Fleischer (the director, and son of Max Fleischer). He signed each above the word "PROPRIETOR" on the glass near the center of the poster. Betty Boop is an animated sex symbol cartoon character created in 1930 by Max Fleischer. She appeared in a huge number of cartoons from 1929 to 1939 and still remains a popular character to this day. Koko the Clown is an animated cartoon character created by Max Fleischer in the 1920s. The character originated when Max Fleischer invented the Rotoscope, a device that allowed for animation to be more lifelike by tracing motion picture footage of human movement. Fleischer filmed his brother Dave in a clown costume, and after tracing the film footage (amounting to some 2,500 drawings and a year's work), the character that would eventually become Koko the Clown was born, although he did not have a name until 1924.

Important Added Info: Note that this limited edition animation cel is #13/125 and comes with a certificate of authenticity from Animation Plus Gallery.

Condition: good to very good. The limited edition cel is in nice condition. However, Richard Fleischer signed it near the center, above the word "PROPRIETOR". The signature is extremely faint and you have to look hard to see it. Apparently this was something that happened to others of this limited edition (likely due to the type of ink that he signed with), because we searched the Internet and found another example with the same defect.
