An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More)

Fresh Laid Plans, the 1951 George Gordon animated animation cartoon chicken comedy short (produced by John Sutherland). Note that this is a very unusual cartoon! It was produced by John Sutherland, who had been a Disney employee in the late 1930s (and he claimed to have been the voice of the adult Bambi, but that is not certain). He left Disney in 1941, and made live action shorts for the government during World War II. He went to work for major corporations after the war, creating shorts that promoted their businesses. In 1951, President Harry Truman proposed the Brannan Plan, which would subsidize small farmers so that they could better compete with large corporations. Sutherland, who was a huge believer in the free enterprise system, felt that government intervention into business was doomed to failure, and he made this cartoon for MGM, mocking the plan, and it helped sway public opinion and cause Congress to kill the plan! John Sutherland is only remembered today by major film buffs, but he had a very interesting life, and you can read about it HERE. Given that Sutherland's view has completely won out, and that giant corporations dominate the farming industry in the U.S. today, this cartoon is more timely than ever!
If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this one-sheet, and that example has been reconsigned to us, so this is still the only example of this one-sheet we have ever auctioned!
