A Linenbacked French Special Poster (measures 36 1/4" x 50 1/2" [92 x 128 cm]) (Learn More) Ville De Maubeuge, the circa 1910s French poster (with taglines that translate to "Velocipedic race attractions" & "Entirely new exercises") promoting a bicycle-related event which took place on August 12th in the city of Maubeuge, France. The event featured Ch. Gerard (a "cycling acrobat") along with Steegle Edwards (billed as "Eccentric tightrope walker world champion"). Note that this poster features artwork of a smiling man riding a bicycle. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Note that this is an extremely rare pre-World War II French poster! Virtually no French posters survive from before, during, or right after World War II. Apparently there were many paper shortages in France during World War II, resulting in the destruction of almost all pre-World War II posters! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster had tears and areas of paper loss along parts of the folds and in parts of the edges. Overall, the poster was in fair to good condition prior to linenbacking.
