3 Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Cards (LCs; measure 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More)

Mysterious Mr. Moto, the 1938 Norman Foster Asian detective mystery crime thriller ("Based on the character 'Mr. Moto' created by John P. Marquand"; the fifth entry in this series of popular movies) starring Peter Lorre ("Peter Lorre gives you your greatest thrill"; in the title role as Mr. Moto), Mary Maguire, Henry Wilcoxon, Erik Rhodes, Harold Huber, and Lotus Long. Note that Fox had had great success with its Chinese detective, Charlie Chan, so it seemed natural for them to start this second series featuring a Japanese detective. It did not start until 1937, perhaps because they did not have an actor suitable for the lead role, but Peter Lorre had substance abuse issues, and he was probably happy to get the work. Fox made seven movies in just three years, but then they stopped the series, likely because of the rise of anti-Japanese sentiment in the U.S., as World War II neared.

Important Added Info: Note that we have only auctioned two title cards and two scene cards for this movie, and we have NEVER auctioned two cards in this group (pictured at upper right and lower left) before!

Condition: very good. The card pictured at upper right has a few dot stains at upper right. The one at lower left has a few tiny tears in the lower right blank border only and some paper remnants on back. Otherwise the cards are in pretty nice condition and they have no actual tape whatsoever on the front or back, and they never have had any restoration of any kind!
