An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Chapter #3 ("The Hidden Hand") One-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 27" x 41") (Learn More) The Fire Detective, the 1929 Spencer Gordon Bennet & Thomas Storey silent fireman firefighter rescue adventure serial ("Thrilling and Amazing Adventures"; "Blazing Pathe serial"; "From a story by Frank Leon Smith") starring Gladys McConnell, Hugh Allan, and Leo D. Maloney. We could find no complete plot synopsis of this serial (which had ten two-reel chapters), but we found an incomplete review that said that the hero of the serial was a man whose father made firefighting equipment, and he became a fireman to see how his father's equipment worked, and that the female lead was a newspaper woman also investigating the equipment. Sadly, this is a lost movie, meaning no prints are believed to have survived. According to the Exhibitors Daily Review, The Fire Detective was set to be the first serial with sound sequences (not a talkie, but synchronized sound effects). However, based on reviews of the time, those intended sound effects never happened, so it was a completely silent serial. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: very good. This poster was linenbacked, and one of the following is true: either the restorer did a good job, but you can see signs of the restoration from inches away (since most people look at posters framed on a wall from at least a few feet away, we don't feel this is a defect, but we feel it should be noted). OR you can't see the restoration because it was so well done, but the poster had fairly significant defects. OR no restoration was performed, but the defects are not major, and restoration could be done to the poster without re-backing it. See below for its pre-restoration defects (we are the only major auction company we know of that gives accurate detailed pre-restoration information to our bidders, but we wish everyone did!). Poster had creases and some tears on some foldlines (it was only tri-folded, and has no vertical foldline). It had a few very minor smudges and creases, as well as some border defects, including small areas of paper loss (which required paint restoration in the blank borders). The poster is well linenbacked, and the restored defects are not very noticeable. Learn More about condition grades
