An Original Vintage Linenbacked Stage Play Poster (measures 28" x 42" [71 x 107 cm]) (Learn More) Tabloid Comedies, the circa 1920s poster ("The Colored Politician. The Colored Statesman. The Politician and the Mayor") promoting a blackface stage play comedy production starring Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Wilber and Supporting Company. Note that this poster features art of the Wilbers along with Arthur in character wearing blackface. It is quite possible this act performed in minstrel shows, since this poster was discovered together with a group of minstrel show posters (which is also why we are guessing it is from the mid 1920s, because that is when those posters were from). Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this poster! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster was never folded. It had a stain at the end of the sleeve of teh man pointing. It had some smudges and tears around the edges. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above. Note that either the restorer who mounted the poster did not leave any excess linen around the edges of the poster, or possibly the owner of the poster chose to carefully trim off the excess, so that the poster would fit in a frame. Also, the poster is slightly rippled, no doubt from having been in a frame, but it is not very noticeable. Learn More about condition grades
