3 Original Vintage Theatrical Chapter #1 (The Great Tragedy) Movie Lobby Cards (LCs; measure 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More)

The King of the Jungle, the 1927 Webster Cullison silent jungle adventure thriller serial ("W. Ray Johnston Presents"; "The Serialplay Extraordinary") starring Elmo Lincoln (best remembered for being the very first actor to portray Tarzan in the movies in 1918), Sally Long, George Kotsonaros, Gordon Standing, Cliff Bowes, Virginia True Boardman, and Arthur Morrison. Note that actor Gordon Standing was mauled by a lion on-set and died the next day. Some feel that this is what lead Lincoln (his friend and co-star) to retire from show business until 1939, when he returned in mostly uncredited and bit parts. Also, it seems likely that the title of this serial was an attempt by the film-makers to cash in on Lincoln's Tarzan fame. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us. Finally, note that this is a "lost" film which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist.
