An Original 1940 (from the first release of this movie in Japan) Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Japanese Movie Poster (measures 21" x 30 1/2" [53 x 77 cm]) (Learn More) Olympia 1. Teil - Fest der Volker (released in the U.S. as "The Olympiad"), the 1938 Leni Riefenstahl (movie actress who became a director for Hitler and made "Triumph of the Will" and this film) German Olympic sports documentary featuring documentary footage of the Olympic events, which included the top athletes from Germany, but also from the other competing countries, including the black athletes from the U.S., most notably Jesse Owens and Ralph Metcalfe. Adolf Hitler appears in the movie, and there are additional sequences of athletes performing (some in the nude), which were filmed especially for this movie. Note that this documentary on the 1936 Berlin Olympics was so massive that it was released in two parts (the first part was "Olympia Part I: Festival of the Nations", and the second part was "Olympia Part II: Festival of Beauty"; so technically this movie should be referred to as "Festival of the Nations", but because most people know it under the title of "Olympia" or "Olympiad", we refer to it in that way). NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that in 2011, we were consigned an example of the Japanese press sheet for this movie, which at that time was the only Japanese poster from this classic movie that we have ever auctioned (it sold for $333). Now, six years later, we were consigned a different example of that press sheet, and also this example of the 21" x 30 1/2" Japanese poster for this movie, which are the second and third Japanese posters we have ever seen from this most historic German movie. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster was never folded. It had tiny paper loss in parts of the top border and a semi-circular area of paper loss in the upper right border, extending into the blue background below the last letter of the title, with a 1" tear extending from the paper loss. There was a smaller semi-circular area of paper loss in the lower right border, extending into the black background to the right of the "A", and a third small semi-circular area of paper loss at the bottom of the black box, slightly extending into the red beneath it. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well! Learn More about condition grades
