The Skywayman, the 1920 James P. Hogan silent World War I (WWI) PTSD shell shock amnesia airplane airline aviation hero romantic melodrama ("A drama of life and thrills above the clouds"; "[Locklear - a crusader in the conquest of the air]"; "By Julius G. Furthman") starring Ormer Locklear (billed as "Lt. Ormer Locklear"), Sam De Grasse, Ted McCann, Jack Brammall, and Louise Lovely. Note that Ormer Locklear was the first of the great daredevils. He specialized in both motorcycles and early airplanes. He performed many very daring airplane stunts, including being the first man to transfer from one plane to another in mid-air. In 1916, Harry Houdini heard of his stunts, and together tried to perfect an escape while being driven on the back of a motorcycle! Ormer made "The Great Air Robbery" in 1919, where he of course performed his own stunts, which was followed by this film, which included a dangerous stunt that involved flying straight down to the ground at night. The ground crew neglected to turn off the ultra-bright film lights as instructed, and because he was blinded by the lights and unable to see the ground, Ormer, along with Milton 'Skeets' Elliot were tragically killed on the last day of filming. The footage was kept in the movie and William Fox made it part of the advertising campaign. Also, note that this is a "lost" film, which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist.
