An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 39 1/2" [69 x 100 cm]) (Learn More) The Burning Question, the 1919 silent World War I (WWI) anti-Bolshevik romantic melodrama ("A super feature photoplay!"; "Pulsating with heart interest."; about a girl and her brother, and how they get mixed up with Bolsheviks before, during, and after World War I) starring Father Kelly ("Chaplain in Chief of The American Legion and Staff Chaplain of the 27th Division"), Inez Ranous, Ida Edgington, May Kitson, and Gilbert Rooney. Note that this movie is an attack on Bolshevism, which was the forerunner of Communism, and after its success in Russia, Bolshevism started to spread to the rest of the world, and there was a movement in America which greatly troubled many Americans, and several movies like this were made, designed to "expose" what they saw as an evil movement. Note that a real life American Legion Chaplain, Father Kelly, had a supporting role in this movie (playing himself), and he was given great billing on one of the two posters for the movie we have ever seen, but oddly, the director is not billed, while the producer, O.E. Goebel is billed on both posters above the title (as "Producer of The Victim and The Transgressor"), and even more oddly, we could not locate the director anywhere on the Internet! Finally, note that there was a 1936 movie released as "The Burning Question", but it is better known as "Reefer Madness", and of course, that movie has no connection to this movie! If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that ANY movie paper from this movie is incredibly rare. We have only previously auctioned a three-sheet from this movie, which was solely text, (and NO other movie paper of any kind) until we received this one-sheet, which we auctioned before. When we auctioned it, it was glued to the back of another poster, and the person who purchased those had them professionally separated and linenbacked, and consigned them to us, and this is not only the only example of this poster we have ever auctioned, but, as noted above, the only other poster from this we have ever auctioned was a text-only three-sheet! Also note that this poster has been trimmed and it now measures 27" x 39 1/2" [69 x 100 cm]. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair to good. The poster was folded in half an extra time and it had tears and paper loss along parts of most folds, more so at crossfolds. It likely originally measured 28" x 42" and it was trimmed, but almost completely only the blank white borders were affected, except in the top of the left border. Overall, the poster was in fair to good condition prior to linenbacking. Someone had the poster backed with no restoration, and after it was backed, it acquired some creases in the right of the bottom, in both the poster and the linen, extending into the right end of the title (see our image).
