Date Sold 7/14/2009Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41") (Learn More) Stout Hearts and Willing Hands, the 1931 Bryan Foy adventure comedy short ("A Masquers Comedy"; "story by Al Austin and Walter Weems"; "Produced by The Masquers Club of Hollywood") starring Frank Fay, Lew Cody, Laura La Plante, Alec B. Francis, Mary Carr, Tom Moore, Owen Moore, Matt Moore, Maurice Black, Georgie Harris, Mathew Betz, Eddie Quillan, Ford Sterling, Mack Swain, Chester Conklin, Clyde Cook, Hank Mann, James Finlayson, Bobby Vernon, Benny Rubin, Bryant Washburn, Richard Tucker, and "The Original Keystone Kops". Note that this is a fascinating movie! Apparently, The Masquers Club of Hollywood gathered together many of the greatest stars of silent serials, and created a comedy short that was a tribute to those serials, but we can find no information of any kind beyond what is on the poster! If anyone knows more about this movie or The Masquers Club of Hollywood, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Note that two of the greatest cliches of silent serials are the mustache-twirling villain and the hero (or heroine) tied up and approaching a blade in a saw mill, yet virtually no movie posters from serials show either of these. Yet the one-sheet for this movie shows both of them (no doubt indicating they had already become cliches by 1931!). Also note that Mary Carr became a major star in the mid 1910s around the age of 40, playing the parts of saintly mothers. She continued to make movies (switching to grandmother roles) through the mid 1930s, and then continued with mostly uncredited parts until the mid 1950s. She passed away in 1973 at the age of 99! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: very good. The poster was folded in half an extra time and there was tiny paper loss at some crossfolds and some minor fold wear. The top blank border was folded back at one time and there was very minor border wear. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well! Learn More about condition grades
