He was one of the most popular leading men from the mid-1940s through the 1960s, and he transitioned to older roles in his later years and appeared in a number of memorable movies. Some of his movies include: To Kill A Mockingbird (winner of the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), Cape Fear, 12 O'Clock High (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), Roman Holiday, The Guns of Navarone, The Omen, The Boys from Brazil, Gentleman's Agreement (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), The Yearling (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), The Keys of the Kingdom (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), and scores of others! He passed away in 2003 at the age of 87. Important Added Info: Note that this item has been personally autographed (signed) by Gregory Peck! It is a letter from Gregory Peck to David Mallery, and it has great content. He says that "The Old Gringo" was ruined in the cutting, and that "the directors' picture will never be reassembled". He also talks about how he sold the rights to "Dodsworth" (apparently, Mr. Peck had bought the rights several years back, intending to star in a remake of it, but that he lost interest in doing so). Finally, he asks about Senator Jesse Helms, wondering "if he cripples the NEA, can the AFI survive?" Note that this letter comes from the estate of David Mallery. He was a professor of cinematography at Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia, from the 1960s into the 1990s. He was a founding member of the AFI (American Film Institute), and a member of the Motion Picture Academy. He was a film critic who wrote many reviews for many publications, and hosted a TV show where he interviewed directors, actors, and others involved in the film industry. Because he became personal friends with most of the actors and directors that he corresponded with, it is virtually a certainty that they hand signed their letters to him, because he was a personal friend and not a "fan".
