An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked German Movie Poster (measures 36 1/2" x 55 3/4" [93 x 142 cm]) (Learn More) Gli Ultimi Giorni Di Pompeii (released in English-speaking countries as "Last Days of Pompeii"), the 1926 Carmine Gallone & Amleto Palermi Italian silent Rome historical melodrama starring Victor Varconi, Rina De Liguoro, Maria Corda, Bernhard Goetzke, and Emilio Ghione. Note that actress Maria Corda was a major Hungarian silent film actress who moved to Germany, where she was directed by Alexander Corda, who she married. At the height of her fame, he was mostly known as her director! But when sound came in, her career diminished greatly, and they were divorced in 1932, and he changed his name to Alexander Korda, and became one of the most famous British producers ever! Also note that there had been several silent versions of this movie in the early 1910s from more than one country, and then there was a U.S. version that followed this in 1940, starring Preston Foster. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had paper loss in the bottom right that extended into the "II" of "POMPEII" and the "MBURG" of "HAMBURG", and also all of the logo. The right border was trimmed off, as was a small part of the left border. The rest of the bottom border was trimmed off beneath the text. There were tears and areas of paper loss on parts of some folds. Overall, the poster was in fair to good condition prior to linenbacking. A really talented restorer did a great job of replacing the missing border areas and the missing bottom right corner, and also did nice restoration to the folds. The poster will display well on the new owner's wall, but bear the extent of the restoration in mind before bidding. Of course, it is likely that no other example of this poster exists, and the majority of the title, credits, and image are present. Learn More about condition grades
