Cooper & Ernest B. Schoedsack silent Thailand jungle adventure documentary ("Marvelous jungle melodrama!"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award; about a peasant family in Siam [now Thailand] who live in a cleared area in the middle of a jungle, and they face endless problems from the wild animals that attack their domesticated animals, including tigers and leopards, but worst of all is the "chang", which is Thai for "elephant", because they sometimes stampede, and the movie shows a group of the men from the village who go out and herd up the elephants, and start to domesticate them!; the movie is not strictly a documentary, because most of the scenes were "recreated", but it seemed incredibly real to 1927 audiences) starring Kru, Chantui, Nah, and Ladah. When the producers of the movie Cooper and Schoedsack saw how much the public loved seeing authentic jungle scenes with wild animals, they hit on the idea of creating a fictional movie with the same setting, and that led to their creating "King Kong", but of course with the massive participation of Willis O'Brien. Note that original movie paper of any sort from this documentary is INCREDIBLY scarce! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography.
