A 1939 Re-Release Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Dracula, the classic 1931 Tod Browning Universal vampire monster horror thriller ("The Greatest of all Horror Thrillers"; "The Vampire Thriller!"; "The story of the strangest passion the world has ever known!"; "Do vampires really exist?"; "From the famous novel & play by Bram Stoker") starring Bela Lugosi (in the title role as Count Dracula), David Manners, Helen Chandler, Dwight Frye (if there had been a Best Supporting Actor Academy Award in 1931, Frye would have surely won it for his wild over-the-top portrayal as Renfield!), Edward Van Sloan (as Professor Abraham Van Helsing), Frances Dade, and Herbert Bunston NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this classic horror movie was re-released in 1938, just seven years after its first release. Apparently it proved extremely popular in that first re-release, because it stayed in release into 1939, and more movie paper was needed (surely because they ran out of 1938 movie paper), and they printed a 1939 set of lobby cards, with at least some different scenes (we have not seen the entire set). We have noted the copyright date on this card, for those who care about this distinction (we have previously auctioned lobby cards with a 1938 copyright and also others with a 1939 copyright, so we know this was intentionally done and was not an error). Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: good. There is a 4" horizontal crease in the middle left of the card, running through the center of Lugosi's cape. There were two tiny circular areas of green paint in Frye's shoulders and chin, and someone tried to remove the paint in his chin, causing surface paper loss in that area. There are faint stains and pairs of staple holes around the edges. See our super-sized images to get a good sense of the condition of this card. Learn More about condition grades
