An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Rotogravure One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) The Grain of Dust, the 1928 George Archainbaud romantic melodrama ("From the novel by David Graham Phillips"; about a successful business man who throws away his business after marrying his typist which only results in further tragedy) starring Ricardo Cortez, Claire Windsor, Alma Bennett, Richard Tucker, John St. Polis, and Otto Hoffman. Note that this is a "lost" film, which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is an extremely rare poster. We have never auctioned one in all our years of auctioning (and we have only auctioned one 8x10 still and an Argentinean poster, but no other movie paper for it whatsoever!). In the late 1910s through the early 1930s, MGM (and sometimes Paramount and a couple of other studios) would often make a regular one-sheet for a movie and, instead of a second style regular one-sheet, would instead make a special "rotogravure" one-sheet. Named after the rotogravure picture sections at the time popular in Sunday newspapers, these one-sheets would be printed in a single color, often sepia, but sometimes other colors, and they would usually incorporate pictorial images from the movie combined in a montage fashion. Very few rotogravure one-sheet have survived, since they were printed on the same paper stock used in newspapers of the time, and the paper is very fragile and often darkens. Condition: poor. The poster, as can be seen in our image, has almost completely separated along most of the folds and the few folds that are still connected are connected only by small amounts of paper, so they are exceedingly fragile. It has creases, other defects, areas of paper loss and tears of varying lengths along parts of the edges and some folds. Clearly, this poster has many defects, but a talented restorer could surely "rescue" it, but please see our super-sized image and bear in mind all of these things prior to placing a bid.
