IT HAPPENED ONE NIGHT ('34) IT HAPPENED ONE NIGHT ('34) LC, jumbo OR search current auctions Auction History Result 3w007 IT HAPPENED ONE NIGHT jumbo LC '34 great smiling head & shoulders portrait of Clark Gable! Date Sold 2/12/2009Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Jumbo Lobby Card (LC; measures 14 1/4" x 17") (Learn More) It Happened One Night, the classic 1934 Frank Capra (winner of the Best Director Academy Award for this film) runaway-heiress-with-undercover-reporter-who-are-complete-opposites-but-fall-in-love-anyway romantic screwball comedy ("Together for the first time!"; "From the Cosmopolitan Magazine story by Samuel Hopkins Adams"; "Screenplay by Robert Riskin"; winner of the Best Picture Academy Award) starring Clark Gable (winner of the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), Claudette Colbert (winner of the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), Walter Connolly, Roscoe Karns, Alan Hale Sr., Ward Bond, and Jameson Thomas. Note that this is a wonderful movie that contains many memorable scenes (perhaps most notably when Gable "instructs" Colbert on how to hitchhike), but it is also memorable for the scene where Gable reveals that he was not wearing an undershirt, which caused undershirt sales to plunge nationwide, and they never recovered! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Condition: good. The card had creases and tears in the bottom of the image area in the left and right of Gable's jacket. There were many pinholes, creases, and tears around the edges of the card. There were many faint smudges and stains scattered throughout the card. The person who owned the card had it professionally backed onto a stiff backing board, and the restorer left a 1" excess border on all four sides. They performed restoration to the above defects, but they pretty much left alone the faint smudging and staining that is throughout the image, because they knew that the card would have a heavily restored look if they attempted to restore away those defects. The smudging and staining is noticeable, but to me, it makes you aware the card is from 1934, and I do not find it all that distracting. Please do not bid on this card unless you have carefully read the above and have carefully studied our super-sized image. Learn More about condition grades
