An Original Vintage Theatrical Autographed Deluxe 10 1/2" x 13 1/2" [27 x 34 cm] Movie Still (Learn More) Janet Gaynor was a popular actress during the 1920s and 1930s. Because of her youthful appearance, many people think of her as a 1930s actress, but actually, she was born in 1906, and she moved with her family to Los Angeles in the mid 1920s, and she got a few bit parts in movies, but in 1926, she became a star with her performance in The Johnstown Flood. She signed with William Fox and starred in a series of movies, especially Seventh Heaven (winner of the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), and Sunrise (winner of the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), and Street Angel (winner of the Best Actress Academy Award for this film). She won the first Academy Award ever given for Best Actress, and unlike many other top silent actresses, sound did not create a problem for her, for she had a great speaking voice, and she remained just as popular. She starred as Vicki Lester in the 1937 A Star is Born (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film; she was 31, but looked much younger). She retired in 1938, making a few appearances decades later. She passed away in 1984 at the age of 77. Important Added Info: Note that this still has been personally autographed (signed) by Janet Gaynor! This is one of eight signed deluxe 11x14 stills (plus one deluxe 8x10) that we are auctioning in nine separate auctions. Our consignor purchased them many years ago. All are personalized with inscriptions "To Ray", and two of them say "Ray Sebastian". Ray Sebastian was a makeup artist in Hollywood from 1936 to 1970, and he did makeup for the actors pictured in these nine stills, and they gave them to him, and we feel certain all the autographs and inscriptions are authentic, but our consignor does not have a certificate of authenticity. Also note that this still measures 10 1/2" x 13 1/2" [27 x 34 cm], but it has not been trimmed. Finally, note that this is a deluxe still printed on double weight paper stock. As is true of all the signed items we are currently auctioning, we give every buyer 30 days in which to review what they purchased and they can return any item as long as it is within 30 days of the end of the auction. On non-signed items, we give a "lifetime guarantee" on everything we auction, but on signed items, we give the above modified guarantee of 30 days after the auction closes. Condition: good. There are some light stains around the edges and some scratches and tiny surface paper loss in Miss Gaynor's collar (see our image). Learn More about condition grades
