Auction History Result 9z647 YOUNG DONOVAN'S KID 6 export French LCs '31 Richard Dix, Jackie Cooper, Marion Shilling Date Sold 9/15/2016 Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. 6 Original Vintage Theatrical French Movie Lobby Cards (LCs; measure 14 1/2" x 19 1/2" [37 x 50 cm]) (Learn More) Young Donovan's Kid, the 1931 Fred Niblo child adoption family relationship romantic crime melodrama ("Bonded in one great picture!"; "Based upon Rex Beach's novel 'Big Brother'"; about a mobster who adopts the young brother of a fellow gangster who has been killed; after much bonding, the boy is taken away, and the gangster goes nuts robbing people, but then, under the influence of the minister's daughter, he completely reforms and gets an honest job!) starring Richard Dix (in the title role as Jim Donovan), Jackie Cooper ("Sensational star of 'Skippy'"; in the title role as Midge Murray), Marion Shilling, Frank Sheridan and Boris Karloff (in a small part, one of an amazing 16 movies he made in 1931; of course, at the end of that year, he starred in Frankenstein and that made him a major star!). Note that this is a "lost" film which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that these export French lobby cards (likely for export to Switzerland) were created by the distributor by creating a set of identical stiff board printed backings, with a blank space for a still, and then they would attach a number of French lobby cards (each measuring 11 1/4" x 15 1/4") to a number of different boards, thus creating a set of French export lobby cards. Note that the board has metal grommets inserted into each corner, to make displaying of this French lobby card far easier. Also note that these French lobby cards measure 14 1/2" x 19 1/2" [37 x 50 cm]. The above is logical guesswork! In later years, Swiss lobby cards were created that were very much like these, except they used stills instead of lobby cards, and they were made in Switzerland, while these appear to be made in France, because they have a Paris address at the bottom.
