An Original Vintage Japanese Campaign Book (measures 6" x 8 1/4" [15 x 21 cm]; 48 pages) (Learn More) Toho 1956, the 1956 Japanese export campaign book ("Excellent! Exciting! Exotic! Exhilarating!") created by the Toho Films company to let U.S. theaters know what Japanese movies they had available for export! The book contains many different movies, some of which were newly made, but some of which dated back as far as a few years, surely because many of these movies, even the most classic ones, had received slight or no distribution in the U.S., and the Toho company knew there was a great potential market for them throughout the U.S. Each of the movies receives two pages with cast information and a plot synopsis, together with images from the movie. Included are many of Toho's greatest movies, including Seven Samurai, Godzilla, Godzilla Raids Again, Ikiru, and others with Toshiro Mifune and ones directed by Akira Kurosawa (see our many images). At the end of the book is a list of the movies, which gives the length of each, together with the English language and Japanese transliterated language titles, and more information, and in addition, it is noted that "With English Subtitles Superimposed". Important Added Info: Note that we have previously auctioned a 1957 Toho campaign book one time, but we have never before auctioned this 1956 Toho campaign book (or any other Toho campaign books). They are obviously incredibly rare! Note: We have 12 images of this campaign book, but due to a space limitation, only TEN of the 12 images are displayed above. However, there is a "supersize" link to the right of those images that lets you see the other 2. Condition: very good to fine.
