An Original 1964 (from the first release of this movie in Italy) Vintage Theatrical Folded Italian Photobusta Movie Poster (pbusta; measures 18" x 26") (Learn More) The Chimp, the 1932 James Parrott circus screwball comedy short (produced by Hal Roach; Stan and Ollie are inept circus performers who cause their circus to go bankrupt, and they have to take care of both the flea circus and the chimp!) starring Stan Laurel, Oliver Hardy (Laurel and Hardy), Bobby Burns, James Finlayson, Billy Gilbert, and Charles Gemora (uncredited in the title role as Ethel the chimp!). Note that the producers of the movie titled it "The Chimp", but oddly hired Charles Gemora that role in a gorilla suit (obviously, it would have been difficult to have a human in a chimp suit, but they could have used a child). They also took liberties with their advertising showing a small chimp on the artwork posters, when the chimp in the movie was over twice that size! Finally, note that starting in 1929 and continuing into the 1940s, Charles Gemora played gorillas in many movies, likely because he owned a gorilla suit, and could do a somewhat convincing job portraying a gorilla. Just a few years later, Ray 'Crash' Corrigan would also start playing gorillas, and no doubt they competed for roles in every movie requiring a gorilla! Important Added Info: Note that this poster, like many Italian posters, is pretty hard to identify! The image appears to be from 1932's "The Chimp" but the poster credits Frank Lloyd as director but the IMDb credits James Parrott as director. If anyone knows more about this poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Also note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Note that it is difficult to accurately date Italian posters, and some unmarked re-release posters can be extremely difficult to distinguish from first releases, so please bear that in mind before you place a bid. We used our best information to date this poster, but we can't always guarantee that the Italian posters we sell are not from an unmarked re-release, but this will only prove to be true in a very tiny number of cases.
