Originally, it was only supposed to run in 1933, but it was so successful that it was "held over" for another year. The theme of the fair was technological innovation, and its motto was "Science Finds, Industry Applies, Man Adapts", giving out a message that science and American life were wedded. This World's Fair is probably best remembered today for the fact that the famous fan dancer Sally Rand appeared there, and that the "Graf Zeppelin" came there from Germany. The first Major League Baseball All-Star game was held in conjunction with the fair. General Motors had a giant exhibition there, as did the other car companies.
