An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41") (Learn More) The Ascent of the Matterhorn, the 1919 silent mountain climbing expedition travel documentary. Note that this was one of a series of travel documentaries created by Burlingham Travel Pictures, and they were quite popular in movies at that time, because in those days, that was the only way average people could hope to see exotic locations. However, there is some mystery concerning the date of this movie! IMDB claims it's from 1923 and we've seen other sources mention 1913 and 1919. This is likely because, as mentioned in his wiki, "Burlingham continued to re-edit and release in the United States his past films like The Ascent of the Matterhorn, Mont Blanc, and Descent into the Crater of Vesuvius". So this poster is likely promoting a re-edited re-release of the original 1913 version, and we believe that 1919 is correct based on a contemporary advertisement, and the litho number on the poster also indicates 1919. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: very good to fine. The poster was folded in half an extra time and there was some wear along the foldlines with some tiny tears and tiny paper loss at the top two crossfolds in the top horizontal foldline. Overall, the poster was in very good to fine condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well! Learn More about condition grades
