Murders in the Rue Morgue, the 1971 Gordon Hessler English crime horror detective thriller ("LOVE and MURDER are the two consuming passions of the Rue Morgue!"; "Rue Morgue... where sighs of passion end in screams of TERROR!"; "A sigh... a gasp... a scream!"; "Night has fallen on the Rue Morgue."; "Edgar Allan Poe's masterpiece of horror..."; "Edgar Allan Poe's masterpiece of the grotesque"; "A sigh of PASSION! A scream of TERROR! And the scratch of claws on the cobblestones. These are the sounds of MURDER in the RUE MORGUE!"; "EDGAR ALLAN POE tells his masterpiece of horror..."; "Based on the novel by Edgar Allan Poe") starring Jason Robards Jr., Christine Kaufmann, Herbert Lom, Adolfo Celi, Michael Dunn, and Lilli Palmer (billed as "also starring Lilli Palmer as Madeleine's Mother"). Note that while many consider this film to be a horror story, it is actually a detective story. Poe's character of C. Auguste Dupin was the prototype of the fictional detective using logic and deduction to solve his cases.
