Artist: Reginald Mount Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this 1955 first release British quad, which is a "country of origin" poster for this English movie! It is one of a remarkable collection of SIXTEEN "country of origin" British quads we are currently auctioning, which includes some wonderful ones, and ten of them are from the 1950s and six are from the early 1960s, and all of them are posters that virtually never are offered for sale or at auction, and many of them are ones we have never auctioned before! This is an incredibly rare opportunity to acquire one or many of these ultra rare "country of origin" posters that may not come up again for many years! Note that there are two similar British quads for this classic movie that are both from the first release. One was printed by Charles & Read, and those were used in London, while the other was printed by Tintern Press (TP), and those were used outside London. This occurred with other movies in the 1950s and 1960s, and sometimes the quads have some significant differences. In this case, there are differences in the art of the cast above the title. This auction is for the quad that was printed by Charles & Read. What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. Prior to paperbacking, the poster had tiny paper loss at the crossfolds and very minor fold wear. It had some writing on the back that bled through to the front in the forehead of the man with the cigarette. It had a 4" uneven tear in the top right that was in the yellow background and entered the hair of the man at far right. It had some tiny pinholes around the edges and a few creases and a few faint stains in the borders. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to paperbacking. Someone paperbacked the poster onto a thin paper and performed restoration to the above defects, but it is slightly noticeable. Also, the poster was slightly roughly handled after it was backed, and there are now creases and a tear in the excess paper, and there are just a few very slight creases in the edges of the poster itself. This incredibly rare and desirable poster can certainly be displayed exactly as it is, or one might choose to have additional restoration performed. Either way, the new owner will have an incredible poster to display on their wall! Learn More about condition grades
