Date Sold 9/6/2020Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Movie Window Card (WC; measures 14" x 18" [36 x 46 cm]) (Learn More) Top Hat, the 1935 Mark Sandrich romantic singing-and-dancing musical comedy ("Ladies and Gentlemen, here's a Show!"; "America's happy dancing stars are here in a glorious show!"; "See them dance the reckless 'Piccolino,' this gay nation's new ballroom adventure!"; "... Hear the songs you can't forget!"; "The king and queen of rhythm on a joyous jamboree!"; "Music and Lyrics by Irving Berlin"; "See them dance the sensational Piccolino"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award) starring Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers, Edward Everett Horton, Helen Broderick, Erik Rhodes, Eric Blore, Donald Meek, and Lucille Ball (in a bit part as a flower clerk). Note that this was the one of the nine wonderful movies that Astaire and Rogers made between 1933 and 1939 (they made one final movie, "The Barkleys of Broadway", fourteen years later in 1949). NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this window card, and that was 6 years ago, when it sold for $936! Also note that this poster has been trimmed and it now measures 14" x 18" [36 x 46 cm]. Condition: good. Most of the blank top was trimmed off. The card had tears in the top border, with some small paper loss in the top left corner that affected the left of the "M". There were some small tears down the left and right borders, with a few extending into the image background. There was a diagonal crease in the bottom right corner that separated that corner from the rest of the card. There was a 4" tear in the upper right border that extended through the yellow area into the green background. There were creases to the left of that area, in the upper part of Astaire's pants. There was a 4" vertical tear in the left of the bottom border, extending into the image at bottom left. There were some stains and smudges around the edges, with just a few scattered in the image. Someone put some tape on the back of border defects and performed slight restoration to the front of the card without backing it. You can see signs of the restoration, but it displays pretty well. Obviously, one could perform additional restoration or display it as is, and that will be the choice of the new owner of this really cool card! Learn More about condition grades
