eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result 3t1197 ARIZONA style B glass slide 1931 young soldier John Wayne, Laura La Plante, ultra rare! Date Sold 2/14/2023Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Style B Movie Glass Slide (measures 3 1/4" x 4" [8 x 10 cm]) (Learn More) Arizona, the 1931 George B. Seitz romantic military love triangle melodrama ("Does Love Bring Dishonor?"; "From the play by Augustus Thomas"; Lieutenant and ladies' man John Wayne is more interested in La Plante's sister than in her, and La Plante gets revenge by romancing Wayne's superior officer, and manipulating him into asking for Wayne's resignation!) starring Laura La Plante, John Wayne, June Clyde, Forrest Stanley, Adrian Morris ("and an all star cast"). Note that John Wayne had been an unknown bit actor in the 1920s, but in 1930, he was given a gigantic break and given the lead in Fox's major western, "The Big Trail". Sadly, that break did not translate into huge success for Wayne, and he had a few more starring roles in dramatic parts, but then became the lead in B-westerns through much of the 1930s. It was only after Gary Cooper turned down the lead in "Stagecoach" in 1939, and the role was offered the John Wayne, that he became a truly major star! "Arizona" was the third movie Wayne made after "The Big Trail", and he is the male lead, but billed under Laura La Plante! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that any movie paper from this movie is incredibly rare. We have never auctioned anything other than some lobby cards and a heavily trimmed window card from this movie until we received this glass slide! Note that this is from an incredible collection of 76 glass slides that were recently discovered! Almost all of them are from 1931 to 1933 (with a very few from before and after). We are auctioning them in 76 separate auctions, and then there will be no more from this amazing find (except for a few duplicated ones, which we will auction at a later time). Not only are many wonderful titles included, but many of the slides are in remarkable condition, and quite a few of them do not have any showtimes or days of the week handwritten in the bottom area, and many likely look like they did when they were first sent to the theater! There have been several "finds" of glass slides over the many years we have been auctioning, but this is surely one of the greatest ever and it is a wonderful opportunity to purchase some or many of these extreme rarities! Also note that glass slides were designed to be put in a special projector that would project the image onto a movie screen (they use exactly the same concept as 35mm slides). We have taken a digital photo of each that shows the general condition of the overall slide and holder, and we have also made a digital scan that shows the glass image well, but does not show the holder (except as a dark outline). Condition: very good to fine. Learn More about condition grades
