An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 28" x 41 1/2" [71 x 105 cm]) (Learn More)

The Escape of Jim Dolan, the 1913 William Duncan silent romantic love triangle cowboy western short ("In two reels"; "'The brand convicts you'"; about a cowboy who is framed and sentenced to ten years in jail, but his girlfriend smuggles him a saw, and he escapes, and is exonerated) starring Tom Mix (in the title role as Jim Dolan), Lester Cuneo, Nip Van, Victor Frith, and Myrtle Stedman. Note that Lester Cuneo had been a major comedy star at the Selig Studio in 1912, but after just a few movies, he chose to re-invent himself as a cowboy star, and had success there as well, also playing dramatic roles at the same time. He served in World War I (WWI), and returned to Hollywood and again began making westerns, playing a character billed as "The Smiling Daredevil". But by the early 1920s, his westerns were less and less successful, and after a series of personal and professional failures, Cuneo could not get any parts at all, and he committed suicide in 1925.

If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that ANY movie paper from this movie is incredibly rare. We have never auctioned even a single movie paper item from this movie until we received this one-sheet! Not only that, this is the earliest one-sheet we have sold from a movie starring Tom Mix (we sold a one-sheet from a movie he made shortly before this, but he was not the star of that movie). Also note that this one-sheet measures 28" x 41 1/2" [71 x 105 cm].

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had tiny paper loss at the crossfolds and pretty minor fold wear. It had tape stains, small paper loss, and tears around the edges, slightly extending into the image background in a few areas. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well!
