An Unfolded Advertising Poster (measures 27" x 39 3/4" [69 x 101 cm]) (Learn More) Sunshine Cinema was a theater in New York City which was founded in 1917 as the Sunshine Theater (it was built on the site of the Houston Hippodrome, a venue for Yiddish vaudeville acts and films). In the late 1930s it was renamed Chopin Theatre and operated until 1945 when it closed and was used as a storage warehouse into the mid-1990s. Following a $12 million renovation project, the Sunshine Cinema reopened on December 21, 2001 and showed mainstream and art house films (and re-releases of classic movies).
