Date Sold 12/19/2023Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage German Campaign Book (measures 9 1/4" x 12 1/4" [23 x 31 cm]; 86 pages) (Learn More) Paramount/MGM 1929-30, the 1929 German campaign book sent to theater owners to encourage them to show their new movies including ones starring Buster Keaton, Clara Bow, Lon Chaney Sr., Greta Garbo, Joan Crawford, and many more, and there is a cool ad for The Canary Murder Case, which includes multiple images of Louise Brooks! This book is a very unusual joint effort between Paramount and MGM, and it came about because UFA, the giant German company, had formed a merger with both Paramount and MGM to become Parufamet, which distributed films from MGM and Paramount in Germany, and which distributed UFA films in the U.S.! So this book contains ads for films from both major U.S. studios, which normally does not happen, because it is one studio per book. Campaign books in general are extremely rare, but ones from Germany from before World War II are even more rare, and ones from the silent days are beyond rare! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this German campaign book! Note: We have 11 images of this campaign book, but due to a space limitation, only TEN of the 11 images are displayed above. However, there is a "supersize" link to the right of those images that lets you see the other 1. Condition: good. Two interior pages were stuck together, and they were separated, which caused surface paper loss on one page and paper loss on the facing page (both sides). This includes an ad for a Joan Crawford movie and a Norma Shearer movie. There is a 2" tear on a page with a John Gilbert ad on one side and a Greta Garbo ad on the other, and some of the pages have some scuffing on them, including one of the Buster Keaton ads. Certainly, one would wish to find this in better condition, but that might take the rest of one's life. Please bear the above defects in mind before bidding, and realize that we did not picture them.
