Date Sold 4/14/2024Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. A Linenbacked Australian Advertising Poster (measures 26" x 30 1/4" [66 x 77 cm]) (Learn More) Anthony Hordern & Sons was a major department store in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. The business started in 1823 and in 1901 they had the largest department store in the world, named The Palace Emporium. Sadly, the business was defunct in 1973, and the historic Palace Emporium building was controversially demolished in 1986. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have only twice before auctioned this Australian poster! Our consignor had three examples of this very rare poster, and now we are auctioning the third one, and once this is sold, we will likely never have it again, unless someone reconsigns one of those three examples. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair to good. The poster was never folded. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. After the poster was backed, it acquired horizontal creases scattered throughout, perhaps from rough handling, or perhaps from exposure to moisture, and also the bottom left corner is "lifting" from the linen. The poster could be removed from the linen and properly re-backed, but please bear this in mind before bidding. Learn More about condition grades
