An Original 1961 (from the first general release of this movie in France) Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked French "Affiche" Movie Poster (23x32; measures 23 3/4" x 27 3/4" [60 x 70 cm]) (Learn More) Bellissima (literally translates to "Beautiful"), the 1951 (released in the U.S. in 1953) Luchino Visconti Italian mother-daughter-relationship movie acting melodrama (about an obsessed stage mother who wants to make her young child a star, at any price; this movie is just as timely today as it was 56 years ago!) starring Anna Magnani, Walter Chiari, Tina Apicella, Gastone Renzelli, and Tecla Scarano NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Lepoureau Important Added Info: Note that this movie had a film festival release in Paris in 1952, but we highly doubt any posters were printed for that release, and its first regular French release was in 1961, and this is from that first regular release. You could technically call it a re-release, but because the earlier release was so limited and almost surely had no posters, we feel it makes no sense to call it a re-release. Also, this poster is extremely rare. We have never auctioned it before! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster was in pretty nice condition prior to linenbacking. Either before or after it was backed, it was lightly folded several times, resulting in some partial horizontal creases scattered throughout (we suspect it occurred after it was backed). The poster was backed onto a thin linen with no excess and displays pretty well, but you can see the light creases, especially one in the middle of the man's hair. Learn More about condition grades
