An Original Vintage Unfolded Window Card Poster (WC; measures 14" x 22" [36 x 56 cm]) (Learn More) The Private Lives of Elizabeth and Essex, the 1939 Michael Curtiz Elizabethan Era England historical medieval royalty romantic melodrama ("It's a Battle Royal of Love!"; "The secret romance of good Queen Bess"; "The Queen who could never be a woman... and the man who could never be a King!"; "The most fascinating romance in history!"; "Based on a stage play by Maxwell Anderson"; the play is based on the legend of this famous relationship, and not the reality!; in real life, Elizabeth was 65, but Davis was 31 when she played the role, and she wore considerable makeup to look much older; the play explores the love-hate relationship between the old queen and the dashing young Earl of Essex) starring Bette Davis (in the title role as Queen Elizabeth I), Errol Flynn (in the title role as Robert Devereux, Earl of Essex), Olivia De Havilland, Alan Hale Sr., and Vincent Price (in his second movie role!) NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have only once before auctioned this window card, and that was 10 years ago, and it has now been re-consigned to us, so it is still the only example of this card we have ever auctioned! Also note that this window card was never folded. Often window cards would be folded across the middle, because that would make them 11" x 14", and they could then be sent with standard folded posters. Most collectors put an added value on a window card that has never been folded. Condition: good to very good. There were staples around the edges of the card and they were removed, causing tiny paper loss and some tiny staining where some of the staple holes were, with paper loss in the top left blank corner. A pair in the center of the bottom border was roughly removed and there is paper loss in that area. There are a few stains in the top of the yellow area and some faint water stains in the bottom blank area, just extending to the edge of the bottom of the red area underneath Davis. Other than the above defects, the card is in pretty nice condition, and it has never had any restoration of any kind! Learn More about condition grades
