An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) The Drake Case, the 1929 Edward Laemmle courtroom murder mystery crime thriller ("HEAR every word of the sensational testimony"; "A Universal 100% Talking Picture"; "story by Charles Logue"; about a maid who is accused of murdering the woman she works for) starring Gladys Brockwell, Forrest Stanley, Robert Frazer, Barbara Leonard, James Crane, and Doris Lloyd (in the title role as Mr. Drake). Note that this movie was made in both a sound and a silent version, and the sound version is lost, but the silent version survives, and this was sadly star Gladys Brockwell's last film, as she died two weeks after the film was completed. Also note that director Edward Laemmle has been largely forgotten by film history, but he has a VERY interesting biography! He is the nephew of Carl Laemmle, who persuaded him to leave his electrical engineering career in 1915 and join him at his recently opened Universal Studios. He started as an assistant director, mainly under John Ford. In 1917, he went to New Guinea to produce a movie about the natives there, and was shipwrecked, and spent two years among the Kia Kia cannibals! This adventure was re-created in the movie "Shipwrecked Among Cannibals", which became the first million dollar movie for Universal Studios. Edward Laemmle went on to direct roughly 50 movies, and had many famous assistants, including William Wyler! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we have previously auctioned one example of this lobby card, and that example has now been reconsigned to us, so this is still the only example we have ever auctioned! Note that there is a stamp on the back that reads "FROM THE COLLECTION OF Michael R. Hawks", who most would consider the premier lobby card collector and expert in the world (and he is still an active collector, looking for the last few items he needs!). Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: very good. Note that this card is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back! We previously auctioned this card, and when the buyer reconsigned it, it acquired small creases in the bottom-left blank corner that were not there when we sold it the first time (see our image).
