An Original Vintage Theatrical Style 2 Movie Glass Slide (measures 3 1/4" x 4" [8 x 10 cm]) (Learn More) All Quiet on the Western Front, the classic 1930 Lewis Milestone (winner of the Best Director Academy Award for this movie) World War I (WWI) anti-war military melodrama ("At last... The motion picture!"; "Universal all talking picture"; from the equally classic novel by Erich Maria Remarque; the movie is from the point of view of German soldiers, and is rabidly anti-war, both of which made the movie very controversial!; winner of the Best Picture Academy Award) starring Lew Ayres (billed as "Lewis Ayres"), Louis Wolheim (who would have won the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award had there been one in 1930!), John Wray, Arnold Lucy, Ben Alexander, Scott Kolk, Owen Davis Jr., Walter Rogers (billed as "Walter Brown Rogers"), William Bakewell, Russell Gleason, Richard Alexander, Harold Goodwin, Slim Summerville, G. Pat Collins, Beryl Mercer, Yola d'Avril (as the French girl Ayres romances by giving her food), and Raymond Griffith. Note that Zasu Pitts was set to appear in the film, but in early screenings, audience members laughed due to her comedienne status, so she was replaced with Beryl Mercer who later appeared in The Public Enemy! Also note that the one-sheet for this classic movie showed a battle-scarred soldier close up. Many people incorrectly assumed that it is Lew Ayres, the star of the movie. It was actually Walter Browne Rogers, and he was chosen as a "haunted unknown soldier", and in the movie his character is killed early on (and we have seen an article that quotes Lew Ayres as saying that he hoped Rogers would get a break out of this, but Rogers made no more movies after this!). Important Added Info: Note that we have previously auctioned two glass slides with a different image (the title is very big and the image is very small), but we have never auctioned THIS "style 2" glass slide ("STYLE 2" is stamped on the cardboard holder)! Note that this is from an incredible collection of 76 glass slides that were recently discovered! Almost all of them are from 1931 to 1933 (with a very few from before and after). We are auctioning them in 76 separate auctions, and then there will be no more from this amazing find (except for a few duplicated ones, which we will auction at a later time). Not only are many wonderful titles included, but many of the slides are in remarkable condition, and quite a few of them do not have any showtimes or days of the week handwritten in the bottom area, and many likely look like they did when they were first sent to the theater! There have been several "finds" of glass slides over the many years we have been auctioning, but this is surely one of the greatest ever and it is a wonderful opportunity to purchase some or many of these extreme rarities! Also note that glass slides were designed to be put in a special projector that would project the image onto a movie screen (they use exactly the same concept as 35mm slides). We have taken a digital photo of each that shows the general condition of the overall slide and holder, and we have also made a digital scan that shows the glass image well, but does not show the holder (except as a dark outline). Condition: very good. Learn More about condition grades
