An Original Vintage Theatrical 10 1/4" x 13 1/4" [26 x 34 cm] Movie Still (glued to a heavy board that measures 14 3/4" x 20") (Learn More) Myrna Loy was an actress from the 1920s to the 1980s. She was born Myrna Adele Williams in 1905, and amazingly, she made 78 movies between 1925 and 1933, and she FINALLY got her big break when she signed with MGM, and the next year she made both "The Thin Man" and "Manhattan Melodrama", and the rest, as they say, was history! But what took Hollywood and film goers so long to recognize her amazing beauty and talent? In her early years of making movies, her "exotic" look led her to sometimes be cast as an Asian or Polynesian! She remained a major box office star for over two decades, and she had wonderful chemistry with ALL of her leading men, including William Powell, Cary Grant, Clark Gable, and many others! Some of her other movies include: The Best Years of Our Lives, Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House, The Thin Man, Cheaper By the Dozen, and countless others. She passed away in 1993 at the age of 88. Important Added Info: Note that this 10x13 still has been professionally matted by the photographer (who signed his name on the matte, and he also wrote "Myrna Loy" in the bottom center of the mat directly under her image). We previously auctioned a similar photo (also matted and signed by the photographer), but that one was also personally autographed (signed) by Myrna Loy with an inscription. This one is NOT signed by Myrna Loy, but it came together with the other one, and no doubt she only signed the one because they were together. This matted still is not dated in any way, but Miss Loy looks EXTREMELY young in the photo (and we have seen where another auction auctioned similar photos from the same photographer, and they said they were circa 1925, when Miss Loy was just 20 years old, and that seems likely an excellent guess). The other one that was signed by Miss Loy sold for $534, but remember that THIS one is NOT signed by her. Our consignor purchased this from a major auction house, and they did not provide a Certificate of Authenticity, but we are certain the photographer's signature is authentic. Condition: good. The photo has uneven discoloration, typical of vintage silver gelatin prints from this time. The matte has some small paper loss in the bottom right corner and staining in parts of the borders. When one looks closely at the image, the discoloration is very noticeable, but from a reasonable viewing distance, this wonderful photo will display well on the new owner's wall!
