An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Six-Sheet Movie Poster (6sh; measures 81" x 81" [206 x 206 cm]) (Learn More)

John Steinbeck's East of Eden, the classic 1955 Elia Kazan (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) California World War I (WWI) era romantic love triangle family relationship melodrama ("John Steinbeck's 'East of Eden' is a story of explosive passions and Elia Kazan has made it into a picture of staggering power!"; "Sometimes you can't tell who's good and who's bad!..."; "Elia Kazan's explosive production of John Steinbeck's 'East of Eden'"; "The new hit- The biggest hit- From the Academy Award Director of 'On the Waterfront,' Elia Kazan!"; "Of what a girl did - what a boy did - of ecstasy and revenge..."; "Warner Bros. present it in an intimate new use of CinemaScope and Warnercolor"; adapted from the classic novel by John Steinbeck) starring Julie Harris, James Dean (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film; "In his very first picture - A very special star!"), Raymond Massey, Burl Ives, Richard Davalos, Jo Van Fleet (winner of the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film), Lois Smith, and Timothy Carey. Note that there is an unusual element to this movie, which is that Elia Kazan had Warner Bros. buy the rights to this classic novel, and then he essentially junked around 90% of it, focusing on a small section of the book. However, Steinbeck had no hard feelings about this, especially because Kazan persuaded him to take a percentage of the profits of the movie as partial payment, and that proved very lucrative to Steinbeck, and the two became very good friends and neighbors!

Important Added Info: Note that the first release U.S. posters for this movie have a generally disappointing image, because most have the title in the center and a montage of images around it, and it is not striking at all (the producers of the movie had no idea that Dean would become a major star, so he is not prominent at all). But this six-sheet, which we have never auctioned before, has a completely different image from any of the other posters. While it still has a montage, it is against a red background, which is quite striking, and the five scenes in the montage all show James Dean prominently! Note that this six-sheet was printed in 4 sections designed to overlap. Also note that the theater that used this poster taped the pieces together before putting them on display (this is typical of many actual theater-used posters in multiple pieces). Note that because this poster was folded oddly (this had to be because of the paper tape on the back), it will need to be sent in a larger than normal flat package that measures approximately 16" x 24" x 1" high, so please bear the shipping costs of this large package in mind BEFORE you place a bid!

Condition: good to very good. The theater that used this poster taped the pieces together with brown paper tape before putting them on display (this is typical of many actual theater-used posters in multiple pieces), and there are pinholes and small tears around the edges, with creases and small tears on parts of some folds. There are some creases scattered throughout the poster (see our image).
