An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Australian Daybill Movie Poster (measures 15" x 35 1/2") (Learn More) Charlie Chan at the Wax Museum, the 1940 Lynn Shores Asian detective mystery crime thriller ("Death strikes four times in 18 eerie minutes"; "Death in the electric chair faces Charlie Chan...at the hands of a murderer twelve years dead!"; "Based on the character 'Charlie Chan' created by Earl Derr Biggers") starring Sidney Toler (in the title role as Charlie Chan), Victor Sen Yung (as Jimmy Chan; billed as "Sen Yung"), C. Henry Gordon, Marc Lawrence, Joan Valerie, Marguerite Chapman, Ted Osborne (billed as "Ted Osborn"), and Charles Wagenheim. Note that the very first Charlie Chan movie was "House Without a Key" in 1925, with George Kuwa as Chan. In 1927, "The Chinese Parrot" (directed by Paul Leni) starred Sojin Kamiyama as Chan. In 1929 came the third movie, "Behind That Curtain", starring E.L. Park as Charlie Chan. 1931 brought "Charlie Chan Carries On", starring Warner Oland in the first of many movies with him as the Asian detective, and he was later replaced by Sidney Toler and then Roland Winters (there would ultimately be 47 Charlie Chan movies!). Of course, Charlie Chan is one of the most memorable literary creations ever, from author Earl Derr Biggers, but because politically correct-minded people have viewed the character as outdated, the movies are rarely shown, which is a shame! Important Added Info: Note that this Australian daybill measures 15" x 35 1/2" and that it is folded. The daybill is similar in size to a "long" daybill, but is a few inches shorter. This was right at the time when Australian poster makers switched to the much smaller size, and perhaps this was a trial size during that in-between period. Condition: very good. the poster does not have the traditional two horizontal foldlines rather, it has three strong horizontal foldlines (unevenly spaced) and also six light horizontal foldlines; there is a light vertical crease running down the left 1/3 of the poster and a partial vertical crease running down much of the right 1/3 of the poster. Aside from these creases, the poster has faint stains, creases, and tiny tears around the edges. None of the above creases are particularly noticeable or distracting. I think most collectors could be happy with this poster as is. But if one wanted to, the poster could be linenbacked, and the light creases would virtually disappear, and after the minor border defects were restored, the poster would look "perfect"!
