Date Sold 3/14/2023Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded German Movie Poster (measures 24" x 34 1/4" [61 x 87 cm]) (Learn More) Der Wolf Und Die Sieben Geissein (literally translates to "The Wolf and the Seven Little Kids"), the 1939 Ferdinand Diehl German animated animation puppet short (about a wolf trying to eat some young goats, based on the fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm). Note that Ferdinand Diehl and his brother Hermann made puppet films starting in the 1930s. Hermann would create the puppets and Ferdinand would direct and handle animation. From the late 1930s to the 1940s, they made several films based on Grimm fairy tales for the Reich Office for Educational Films (later known as Reich Institute for Film and Image in Science and Education). Up until the 1960s, their works were part of the standard repertoire of afternoon cinema screenings or 16mm screenings in schools. Probably their most popular creation is Mecki the hedgehog, a household character especially through the 1950s and mascot of Hoerzu TV and radio magazine. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is a rare "country of origin" poster for this German movie that was made prior to World War II (we have only auctioned it once before!). There are very few German movie posters from during World War II in existence (because of the massive paper shortages in Germany during World War II), and most of those few are in museums. It is likely that German posters from during the Nazi era are even more rare than those from before that era, because most of those that survived the war would have been destroyed right after the war! Condition: good. The poster was placed on to a very thin linen backing shortly after being printed. The purpose was to reinforce the poster, so that it would survive, when it was passed from theater to theater, and when it was put up on walls and taken down. Such posters can be professionally removed from the original linen and placed on to a proper linen backing. Some of that linen wrapped around to the front and has a few patches of glue staining. There is a large foreign distributor stamp at upper left and a smaller censor stamp at lower right. The poster absolutely can be removed from the old linen and properly restored, but please see our super-sized image to get a good sense of the condition of this poster prior to placing a bid and please do not bid unless you can accept the defects described above, or you are willing to pay to have them properly restored.
