Important Added Info: Note that this movie could not have been released in Belgium in 1944, because they were still occupied by the Nazis at that time. The movie opened in France in 1946, after France was liberated, and it would seem extremely likely that it played in Belgium at that same time. Also note that this poster was printed on the back of an old map! During World War II in Belgium, there was a massive paper shortage, and so they used whatever paper they could find to print the movie posters, and in many cases they used old maps, and printed the movie posters on the reverse. They often also made the posters smaller, so they could get more posters printed. This practice continued for a couple of years after World War II. Since these posters are original, and since all such posters are printed on the back of maps or other posters, this is not considered a defect by almost all collectors. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster was printed on the back of a map (see above). The printing on the back shows through to the front in the light colored areas of the poster, which includes the faces of all three stars. The poster also originally had a blank top that was neatly partially trimmed off (this is commonly done with Belgian posters, similar to how the blank top is trimmed off of U.S. window cards). Otherwise, the poster has a crease in the upper right and a few tiny stains in the bottom border. This bleed-through would be on all examples of this poster that were printed on the back of maps, which is likely all or most of them, but please consider this important defect before bidding on this really cool poster.
