An Original Vintage Movie Trade Ad (measures 8 1/2" x 12 1/4" [22 x 31 cm]; 6 pages) (Learn More) National Velvet, the classic 1944 Clarence Brown (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) horse racing sports gambling family relationship melodrama ("MGM's great technicolor heart drama"; "Based on the novel 'National Velvet' by Enid Bagnold"; about a young English girl whose father is a butcher and her mother was a former English Channel swimmer, and she dreams of owning a race horse that will win the Grand National Steeplechase, and with the support of her parents and a young man of dubious character, she fulfills her dreams) starring Mickey Rooney, Donald Crisp (as Mr. Brown), Angela Lansbury, Elizabeth Taylor (in the title role as Velvet Brown), Anne Revere (winner of the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film; as Mrs. Brown), Jackie 'Butch' Jenkins (billed as "Jackie Jenkins"; in his third movie role!), Eugene Loring, and King Charles (as The Pi; after the movie, Elizabeth Taylor was given King Charles as her personal horse!) They would run these ads in their studio yearbooks and exhibitor magazines, and they would also print those trade ads separately and mail them individually to theater owners, trying to get them to book that specific movie. Sometimes those books and magazines are separated and the ads, which now greatly resemble the individually printed trade ads, are sold individually. The trade ad offered here was printed individually. It can be framed and displayed (but many trade ads have different images on each side, so one must choose which side to display if it is framed!).
