An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) A Date with the Falcon, the 1941 Irving Reis detective mystery crime thriller ("Based upon the character created by Michael Arlen") starring George Sanders (in the title role as The Falcon), Wendy Barrie, James Gleason, Allen Jenkins, Mona Maris, and Hans Conried (in an early uncredited role). Note that this is one of four movies that starred George Sanders as The Falcon. After the fourth movie, the role of The Falcon was passed from George Sanders (who had previously played "The Saint" in a series of movies, and who apparently had tired of this role, and wanted to leave) to Tom Conway (they played brothers in the movie and in real life they were brothers!; in a clever move, the script for that movie, "The Falcon's Brother" had George Sanders' character killed, and his brother, played by Tom Conway, shows up and solves his murder, and becomes the "new" Falcon; and Conway went on to make a total of twelve Falcon movies). This means the poster was backed onto a light paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (it means that the poster must be handled carefully, as the backing does not give it much added strength, but it is similar to having an unrestored poster, and yet it has been properly preserved). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards. What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. Prior to paperbacking, the poster had tiny paper loss at the crossfolds and pretty minor fold wear. It had three small pieces of tape in the top border. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to paperbacking.
