Auction History Result DAUGHTER OF ROMANY 1sheet Date Sold 7/1/1997Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh) (Learn More) A Daughter of Romany, the 1913 Charles Brabin silent Romany romantic melodrama short ("Edison photo-play"; "A drama of the Gypsy folk"; "Produced in Kent, England"; "Lord Laversham marries a gypsy, but he brings up his daughter in ignorance of her mother. At his death, the mother reveals herself and the girl runs away to join her, but her English blood revolts at the squalor and she is glad to join her lover") starring Marc McDermott, Miriam Nesbitt, Winifred Albion, and Kathleen Russell. Note that this is the sort of movie that showed just how pervasive anti-Romany sentiment was throughout the world in 1913. While bigotry against other groups of people were occasionally explored in movies, it is hard to find a movie from this time where people of Romany origin are not presented in a massively negative light, as in this movie.
