Date Sold 9/15/2020 Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. 4 Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Cards (LCs; measure 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) The Kaiser's Shadow, the 1918 Roy William Neill silent World War I (WWI) spy espionage romantic melodrama (based on the story by Octavus Roy Cohen & J.U. Giesy; about a German couple who move to the U.S. and find work in the home of a scientist, working on a new kind of rifle; they are spies for the German government, and after many misadventures, it turns out that they are secretly double agents who were working for the Allies to expose the real German spies) starring Dorothy Dalton, Thurston Hall, Edward Cecil, Leota Lorraine, Otto Hoffman, and Charles K. French. Note that World War I began in 1914, but the U.S. did not enter the war until April 1917. There are many theories on why this was, some of them very cynical about the U.S. wanting to continue to supply both sides. President Wilson was able to "overlook" many incidents, including the sinking of the Lusitania by the Germans, during which many Americans lost their lives, but finally, the U.S. DID enter the war in April 1917, and immediately, Hollywood made a series of anti-German movies, specifically focused on Kaiser Wilhelm, portraying him as pure evil, and this is one of those movies! Important Added Info: Note that this a very rare group of lobby cards for this movie (we have only auctioned one lobby card for this title and no other movie paper for it in all of our years of auctioning!) Condition: very good. The lower corners of the cards have become somewhat fragile and three have paper loss in the lower left corner (one has small paper loss in the right corners.)
