An Original Vintage Theatrical Chapter #5 (King Leary) Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) The Telephone Girl, the 1924 silent romantic comedy serial ("Every chapter a riot of laughter and entertainment"; "With bewitching Alberta Vaughn and practically the entire cast of 'Fighting Blood'"; "12 enchanting stories"; "Bewitching ---saucy---piquant"; "Alberta Vaugn in the famous H.C. Witwer-Cosmopolitan magazine stores") starring Alberta Vaughn, Gertrude Short, Al Cooke, Kit Guard, and "an all star cast". Note that H.C. Witwer is virtually forgotten today, but in his time (the 1920s), he was perhaps America's foremost short story writer of stories dealing with sports, and he published over 400 stories in his lifetime, which was not a long life, because he sadly died in 1929 from liver failure, and surely would have written a great many more stories had he lived longer (he was just 39 when he died). Many of his stories were adapted into films, including "The Leather Pushers" series of boxing movies, and the "Racing Blood" series of horse racing movies, among many others. In 1929, he sued Harold Lloyd for plagiarism of one of his short stories in Lloyd's "The Freshman", and he died during the trial, but his wife continued the lawsuit after his death, and she was awarded $2.3 million (in 1929 dollars!), but the judgement was overturned, and she received nothing. Witwer produced some of the movies made from his stories, and it is sad that he is so completely forgotten. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: good.
