An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Local Theater Jumbo Window Card Movie Poster (WC; measures 22 1/4" x 28 1/4") (Learn More) Top Hat, the 1935 Mark Sandrich romantic singing-and-dancing musical comedy ("Ladies and Gentlemen, here's a Show!"; "America's happy dancing stars are here in a glorious show!"; "See them dance the reckless 'Piccolino,' this gay nation's new ballroom adventure!"; "... Hear the songs you can't forget!"; "The king and queen of rhythm on a joyous jamboree!"; "Music and Lyrics by Irving Berlin"; "See them dance the sensational Piccolino"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award) starring Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers, Edward Everett Horton, Helen Broderick, Erik Rhodes, Eric Blore, Donald Meek, and Lucille Ball (in a bit part as a flower clerk). Note that this was the one of the nine wonderful movies that Astaire and Rogers made between 1933 and 1939 (they made one final movie, "The Barkleys of Broadway", fourteen years later in 1949). NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this window card has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except somewhat heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards. Condition: good. The poster was never folded. It had nail holes, creases, smudges, stains, and tears scattered throughout, more so around the edges, which were quite tattered. Overall, the poster was in fair to good condition prior to paperbacking. The poster was pretty well backed. The restorer did not want to do extensive restoration throughout (to avoid a re-painted look). You can clearly see that the card has had extensive restoration from close up, but from any reasonable viewing distance, the defects are less noticeable, and, while they give the card an "aged" look, I still think the card displays pretty well!
